The 2011 Toon To Town Challenge

The second Toon to Town Challenge Ride took place from Monday 2nd May to Friday 6th May 2011 along a similar route Newcastle to Llanelli that Giles took on his solo journey. In 2010 while Giles completed his first challenge, Tim Mayland was busy completing a 350 mile charity cycle ride through France in aid of Help for Heroes, called the Big Battlefield Bike ride. Both Giles and Tim swapped tales and formulated a plan for 2011 resulting in them being joined by four other riders for the second official Toon To Town Challenge Ride.

They were aided by Jim Boughen in a support vehicle following them along the route. The group travelled to York, Nottingham, Worcester before hitting their first patch of rain when they arrived on the Welsh border at Hay-on-Wye. The short journey into Brecon meant that the group arrived wet and weary.

The last day from Brecon to Llanelli was in sunshine and the group were joined by Gareth Jenkins, the ex Scarlets, Wales and British Lions coach. His enthusiasm carried the weary riders to Llanelli where a ground collection at Parc Y Scarlets meant that together with personal sponsorship we were able to donate £1,750 to the Ray Gravelle and Friends Charitable Trust.
